Most popular country in ASEAN for international visitors in 2023 is not Thailand

Yes, it’s Malaysia. We have even exceeded the numbers prior to Covid! In 2019, we welcomed 26 million international tourists and if I remember correctly, we were second placed then, behind our fiercest competitor for international tourists; Thailand.

Article in vnexpress.net Malaysia recorded nearly 29 million foreign arrivals last year, becoming the most popular destination in Southeast Asia, a throne that belonged to Thailand before Covid. Singaporeans were Malaysia’s biggest source of foreign arrivals with 8.3 million, followed by Indonesians, Thais, Chinese and Bruneians, according to Focus Malaysia news site. Thailand came in second in the region with 28 million foreign tourists, followed by Singapore with 13.6 million. Do read the full article here: Article in vnexpress.net

Most of them came from Singapore…

In case you like to say, ‘aiya… many of this international tourists are from Singapore…’ Erm… fyi, many of Thailand tourists are also from Malaysia too… Haha. Just look at the numbers lah. Debate for what. When we have more tourists, they will need a place to stay, they will need to buy things, they will be visiting places. All these are good for the economy. It’s a simple fact. I saw a video saying that Singaporeans also travel to Malaysia to buy medications. Let them buy lah.

For medical products, the price is the same throughout Malaysia for the chains, the price cannot just move up because they have higher sales in Johor lah. Pity the poorer Singaporeans who need medications but found the price too expensive in Singapore. Let’s help them to be healthy too. They also would not just cross over to JB to buy medicine lah. When they come, they spend money too. It’s win-win for everyone. Welcome!
